Welcome to gant.com
GANT Rugger is inspired each season by the people we see out and about, those who live and breathe their passions. People who are just like you. The Spring/Summer 2013 collection draws inspiration from a particular group of guys, whom we have crossed paths with time and time again. A group of stylish New Yorkers who are all connected to the fashion industry in one way or another and live their lives as photographers, bloggers, writers, and adventurers.
We asked ourselves one question, if these guys were to travel to Italy to document Pitti – the biggest fashion showcase for men – how would they dress? The Spring/Summer 2013 collection is our answer. We are their fans and in some ways they are ours too, but they are also our biggest critics. Designing a collection inspired by these guys required us to really step up our menswear game.
Team Americano is made up of a group of American friends who have killer style and who all wear clothes in their own sprezzy way. Each of these guys brings a unique perspective to the season and we worked with them to capture as much of the experience as possible.

The collection not only captures the American spirit of Team Americano, but also draws from the seaside village of Alassio, where the coast is dotted with houses in the most beautiful sun faded, wind swept pastels. We mixed those colors with the stronger colors of traditional American sportswear and combined a relaxed look with dressier pieces like unconstructed blazers and light linen jackets. What we achieved is something that looks like a million bucks, but is still comfortable, relaxed, and summery. This is truly a slow fashion collection.
Team Americano set off on an epic journey to the very epicenter of menswear – Pitti Uomo in Firenze. Their hearts, minds and wardrobes have been set on this trip since forever ago.
First stop: Pitti Uomo, the Holy Grail of menswear. A melting pot of style, tradition, sprezzatura, photographers, bloggers, models, and designers of course. Rookies popping their Pitti cherry, in awe of the old masters. The bloggers, the shooting stars, the playboys, the crème de la crème.
And it’s here, in the middle of all this, we find Team Americano, along with everyone who is anything in men’s fashion. And for a few days, the world’s eyes turn to scorching hot Firenze where American Sportswear meets its Italian cousins to create a loving mix of bold and understated style, both classic and new.
After two days spent scouring the area, shooting every guy worth a post, noting every nuance in every outfit, it’s time to kick back and go into vacanza mode. After all a trip with friends wouldn’t be complete without a few days to kick back and relax. So Team Americano hit Alassio, a not-so randomly picked seaside village on the Italian Riviera. Free from foreign tourists “Dude, we’re NOT tourists; we’re an Internet sensation!”
Q: Most insane on the trip?
The moment we walked into one of the main plazas in Florence a huge tour group was walking by and they stopped right in front of us. Everyone thought we were famous since we had an entourage of cameras. It was insane.End quote
Probably when Madonna rolled through. Or our first dinner together in Florence. Bistecca Fiorentina at the Trattoria 4 Leoni! Yeow!End quote
Hanging out in Alassio and drinking champagne on the beach with Team Americano and Stoffe.End quote
Q: Was Pitti everything you hoped?
And then some. It was amazing to check out some of the great Italian brands I had been nerding out about for years at that point.End quote
I had been to Pitti before with GQ.com, so this was my second trip. It is always a wild experience - overwhelming at times, but the best place to see over-the-top men's style in the world. The best thing about it is many of these guys were doing this long before there were cameras in their face.End quote
It was really cool to experience, what they don't tell you is that Florence is like 100 degrees in the summer and you'll sweat through whatever you wear.End quote
Q: How does it feel to be the inspiration for the Team Americano collection?
It's by far one of the coolest things I've ever had the pleasure and honor of being a part of. To think that I could serve as inspiration for one of my favorite brands is kind of unfathomable. Bastin is incredibly generous and I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity he gave us.End quote
I think Stoffe is nuts, but god bless him and love him. He's the fucking man.End quote
It's kind of insane. I remember when it first launched and how much I liked it. I would have not believed you at all if you told me I would be part of the inspiration for a season then.End quote
Q: Favorite pieces from the Collection?
I love that caramel covered sweater with the swoop neck - I wanna pack that in a bag and run away to Alassio to write a novel and eat gelato for the rest of my days. I'd pack an indigo shirt from the line, too.End quote
The plaid pullovers/popovers, the plaid DB suit i wore, and the dreamy oxford in over dyed navy.End quote
The lightweight shirts!End quote
Q: Give us three songs for the Team Americano soundtrack?
What is Team Americano up to right now?
See for yourself. The journey never really ends, does it?
