Q1: What makes you tick, what are you passionate about?
Travel. Adventure. I’m passionate about knowledge, about new ideas and learning. I’m fascinated with life experience and traditions, ancient ways of doing things, ceremony, preparation, sound, language, culture. I guess creativity, I get bummed out if a day goes by with out making something, preparing it, sharing it. That’s why I love being in the kitchen so much. It’s immediate and then I can consume it, feed myself with it, grow it. It’s a powerful thing, every man should cook. It’s as individual as we are.
Q2: What´s your job?
I am Creative and CoFounder of The Brooklyn Salsa Company. I’m an actor. I write. I explore. I’m an explorer.
Q3: How did you end up there?
I arrived in New York after drama school, Rob and I were roommates initially. My first job as a teenager was in the kitchen of a little Mexican restaurant. I made salsa and fried tortillas mostly. For 13 years I was vegan, and salsa has always been a staple for me. So when I moved in with Rob who is our real business man, it was kind of salsa meets entrepreneur and we just said “Let’s do this.”
Q4: What’s a perfect Sunday like?
I sleep in, coffee in bed, make love, get up and cook brunch, make a picnic, take a walk, drink more coffee, find a new book, buy some champagne, get on a boat, lay around for a few hours in the sun, swim off the deck, go home, do whatever I want for a few hours, go by the market and pick up ingredients, cook dinner, get a little beer buzz going, start listening to records, go to find some live music, meet some new people, get inspired, go home, write down my thoughts, read out loud, go to bed, lucid dream.
Q5: Favorite song?
It’s an impossible question. I’m always on the hunt for new music. There are different songs I love for different feelings, different songs for different seasons, but rarely do I listen to the same songs over and over and over again. Though, Human Abstract by David Axelrod is a song I never get tired of.
Q6: Favorite dish?
Chips and Salsa.
Q7: A tip?
Take the Lid Off
Q8: Favorite place in the world?
The Great Plains. In South Dakota where I grew up, there are places you can stand in a field and turn 360 degrees and see nothing but grass. No trees. No houses. No road. Nothing. There’s a great power there. The sky. The wind. Silence. Home. It feels good, that’s all I can describe of it.
Q9: Favorite piece from the GANT Rugger FW13 collection?
The green jacket. I found a mid-80’s Barbour jacket in Paris a few years ago that I’ve worn to the bone. This GANTRugger piece reminds me of that kind of classic jacket, it’s warm, the details are beautiful, it feels substantial, natural, easy. I like it.
